Want to dress up your facade? To dazzle your visitors and achieve a result that's different from all the other houses in the neighborhood, you have a number of options for enhancing the facade of your building.

There are, of course, contemporary paint effects and techniques, but why not opt for a more natural solution? How about climbing plants? A touch of colorful, fragrant flowers, including a variety of foliage, makes an exceptional addition to your walls.

Adopt a patchwork style of foliage

To dress up a small wall in a patchwork style, we recommend "Lowii", a climbing plant renowned for its crisp, leafy form. Of course, this isn't the only plant alternative to decorate your home: there are also Virginia creepers called "Parthenocissus" and "Ampelopsis". They have the ability to climb high walls on their own, thanks to their spiky suckers. Their cut foliage comes in a variety of colors, from golden to creamy, to add charm and elegance.

Different varieties of ivy are also part of this patchwork-style wall covering. These plants grow very gently and are unlikely to damage healthy walls.

For flower wall fans...

Flower wall addicts are not left out, as we have a list of climbing plants that are sure to please. At the front of the line are climbing hydrangeas. They have a unique characteristic: easy growth, flowers and adventitious roots for natural clinging. For walls that are too exposed to the sun, roses are a must. In winter, you can get your hands on jasmine nudiflorum. Its yellow stars will brighten up any wall in winter. However, this type of climbing plant requires support.

As for clematis, they're very tempting. Choose the most vigorous forms, such as montana or armandii. The real advantage of these is their liana-like appearance, which clings to tall walls.

Fragrant walls all year round

Give your home a rustic ambience by choosing a fragrant climbing plant. In fact, the outside walls of your home will be decorated by a profusion of star-shaped flowers adorned with dark green foliage. Trachelospermum is the perfect choice for this effect. An exotic creeper nicknamed "Bignonia capreolata" unveils extraordinary evergreen foliage accompanied by two-tone trumpet-shaped flowers visible in May-June. This magnificent climber gives off a subtle coffee fragrance and needs a southern exposure.

By the way, fruit trees such as fig and pear trees can also be used to decorate a facade. Simply trellis them against the wall and they'll produce abundantly. To avoid any inconvenience, it's best to call in a landscape gardener who can tell you which climbing plant is best suited to your facade.

As well as providing flowers for your facade, these climbing plants can also be planted at the foot of a wall, or to decorate a pergola or garden arbour.
